If the cost of living crisis has you questioning your salary, then this story might be the inspiration you need to brighten up your Thursday morning.

One of my clients tripled her salary in just 18 months.

Not a typo. A true story.

When we met she was on £26k. The job she secured through my Creative Career Level Up programme paid £40k. And when that job was made redundant, she used what I’d taught her on the programme to secure her next job - and a £77k salary.

Now this might sound like a fairytale. But I can assure you, it is real.

Here’s how she did it.

  1. Set a Goal - Make a process to achieve it.

It’s going to sound super boring, but it starts with knowing what you want to achieve and creating a process to achieve it.

I’ve worked with over 170 people on my Creative Career Level Up programme and those who achieve the biggest success are the ones who know what they want and then create a repeatable process that can get them there.

You may have noticed I said a ‘process’, not a plan. Because anyone can create a plan. But it’s the process that underpins the plan that gets you to the goal.

You need to know exactly what tasks you will be doing each month/week/day. So that it becomes something you can do consistently over a sustained period of time (this doesn’t happen overnight!)

  1. Get Help - Find a coach or mentor

All of life’s greatest achievements come with the help of others. Even Olympic athletes have coaches.

So it is crazy for you to think going it alone is the best idea. Find yourself a mentor or a coach who can be in your corner and push you to achieve more than you would be able to on your own.

And it doesn’t have to cost money. I’ve had plenty of mentors in my life who were free and supported me cause they wanted to see me succeed. Trust me, there are plenty of people out there who would love to help. Find them and leverage their knowledge and support.

  1. Know Where the Money is - And go there.

If tripling your salary in 18 months is the goal, you have to know where the money is. You can’t just WILL a job to pay more. You have to go to where the money is being paid.

So if you work in an industry -  like fashion - where the salaries are notoriously low, you are not going to triple your salary in 18 months. You’ll have to move to another industry.

Do the groundwork to understand where the bigger salaries are being paid, what they look for when they hire talent and what you might need to do differently to secure a job in one of these companies.

Once you know where you are heading, you can put that process in place with the help of your mentor and start taking action towards achieving your goal.

Two things are true

There are TWO things you have to know if you want to make big leaps in salary in a quick amount of time.

Firstly, you are going to have to move jobs. It is unlikely you can negotiate with your current company to triple your salary (although I'd love to hear from anyone who has!)

Secondly, you’re going to have to focus on this and work hard. It won’t land in your lap.

But if you are committed, it’s possible for anyone. Believe it or not, this isn’t the only client I have who has tripled their salary. It’s more common than you think.

I help people in the Marketing and Creative and Tech Industries to find their next perfect role.
