Unbelievably my client had secured a role in the Marketing team at one of the world’s biggest global brands - after just a 30min first round interview.
This was HUGE!
But the key thing for me was their feedback. They offered them the job because they were miles ahead of the other candidates.
How do you get offered a role at a sort-after global brand with ONLY a 30 minute interview…
Here’s what they did.
1. They knew how they were going to pitch.
Understanding how you are going to pitch yourself for a role isn’t a nice to have - it is absolutely essential. You must know BEFORE you go into the interviews how you are going to show the hiring team that you are the best person for the job.
You need to know how you will position yourself AND how you are going to sell the value you can add. If you can do this, 80% of the work is done!
2. They obsessed the brand AND had opinions on what they were doing
Knowing what is happening in an industry and with a brand is important - but that is the bare minimum. It’s not enough just to know about campaigns the brand or their competitor are running. You must also be able to talk through them, critique them and give ideas on how you might improve or add value.
Most modern marketing teams aren’t looking for robots who think the same. They want to hire people who are thinking different and pushing the brand forward. Having an opinion and not being afraid to share it takes this to the next level!
NOTE: you don’t have to be critical of the brand to critique or have opinions on their work.
3. They build a solid network (from scratch!)
Before this person even interviewed with the brand, they were on their radar. 12 months worth of networking resulted in some key connections who were able to give insight and guidance about the brand and what they were looking for when they hire talent. This insider knowledge proved in-valuable when it came to the hiring process.
Securing a role at a big global corporation with just a 30min interview is NOT the norm. But as you can see, it does happen. To do this, you absolutely MUST take your execution to the NEXT LEVEL.
